Thank you to you and your friend for posting this.
Finding out the potential side effects to any medication is, as you suggest, a good idea -- especially if it has a black box warning, or indicates that changes to mood and behaviour, such as increased depression and sucidial thoughts.
A drug that works for one person, may be, for another, life destroying or threatening.

Scary. You'd think doctors and pharmacists would specifically tell you what to look out for before you start taking these meds.

She does make assumptions about disabled people especially with invisible disabilities like mental illness. However, there was one time she had a couple on who were both on SSI for learning disabilities. The man was working in construction under the table and rationalized it by saying that SSA wouldn't care if they didn't know about it. There are those people that are allowed for some reason to scam the system but they are few and far between, and when they are on Judge judy they make for good ratings.

I wanted to let you know about my charity event for National Fibromyalgia Day May 12,2012. Just make a purchase at www.glitzeeglee.com and 50% of all proceeds will go to fibrocoalition.org. I've had fibromyalgia for 7 years. I highly recommend you visit this charity's website. They have helped a lot of people find the root cause of their fibromyalgia. They publish a magazine with great tips and the latest research.

As a fellow fm sufferer Wendy, I can relate to what you've written. Although I've now reached acceptance, and my life isn't the same, it appears that many people in my life cannot accept.. I can understand their reluctance and even was guilty of that 'sin' myself when a friend was diagnosed with a chronic condition many years ago. She had been advised to accept that her life was never going to be the same and to learn to accept her condition. I can remember telling her to fight back and not give in. I can see now that, that was a caring but misguided thing to do. Of course we try to fight back, it's human nature...fight or flight. I think almost everyone who suffers with a long term chronic illness fights back in their own way, but acceptance is so, so important to being able to come to terms and move on. Just today, someone very important in my life said that joining a support group might not be beneficial and would perhaps mean that my illnesss came to 'define' me. Right now, i feel a little wounded by that because I fight hard to be the person that I am and to not let my symptoms rule my life but to some degree, surely long term illness, whatever form it takes, defines us. Thank you for what your article, it has given me a little bit of a lift on a bad day. Onwards and upwards. Best wishes and better days to you.

Michael - Yeah, the woman is SERIOUSLY prejudiced against anyone who is sick or unable to get a good job for any reason. . . She gets away with unfair decisions because everyone who goes on the show is required to sign a "contract" agreeing to accept her decision as final, and because it's not actually a court of law, they have no right to appeal.

So very true. I see this show while other family members are watching Whenever there is a litigant that receives disability I know she will try to disprove their disability and if all possible rule against them. In addition, she always yells at the person "You didn't pay with your money, you paid with my money and Byrd's money. I've seen cases where it's proven the money was a loan to the defendant yet she rules against the plaintiff on the basis that the income was from SSDI and therefore not their money to begin with. I understand that she is simply acting as an arbitrator on the show and not an actual judge. What I can't understand is how she can be allowed to make a judgement based on the fact that she feels if the person's income is from disability it is not their money and isn't eligible to be repaid.
